Can I make it?

Can I make it?
Between changing my commute and turning off the A/C with the cooler weather my MPG has gone way up. I'd love to join the 700 mile club, but don't want to join the "stuck on the side of the road club".
I have 629 miles on this tank and my gas gauge is on E. My MFD is indicating 46.5 mpg. Even if it's off by 2 mpg and I'm only getting 44.5 that would give me over 750 miles on a 17 gallon tank, leaving some in reserve. I feel I can safely hit 700. What do you think?

Re: Can I make it?
As long as your MFD doesn't drop much below 46.5, you should make it with about a gallon left in the tank. I've gone 70 miles past E before and only used 16 gallons to fill. I often state how many miles past Empty I drive in the comments section of the mileage database

I Wimped Out
OK, OK, I got nervous. I was at 653 miles, the needle was a little below E and I was driving by a cheap station so I decided to fill up. Put in 14.4 gallons, so I still had over 3 gallons in the tank. Would have easily made it to 700, with almost 100 miles to spare.
Maybe next time.

Re: Can I make it?
Have about 8 K miles on my TCH. Have never let my tank go lower than 1/4 to 3/8. Main reason, don't like seeing the 30 to 35 bucks going onto the credit card. Most gallons put in has been 10.6 on several occasions at the pumps. Then to figure just how many more miles the tank could have gone is to take the remaining fuel left in the tank (10.5 subtracted from 17.2) and use the mpg figure on the MFD or calculated mpg, to figure how many more miles I could go. No worry about an embarrassing run out of fuel situation or paying the tab for 16 or 17 gallons of fuel.
That is my way of thinking. But do think it would not be a legitmit claim to a 650 or 700 mile tankfull.

Yes you did. The fact that I was going to be driving with the wife when I hit 700, or possibly ran out of gas, definitely figured in the decision.

Re: Can I make it?
I have been getting AT LEAST 700 miles per tank for months. My average F/E has been over 43MPG. I find that the F/E shown times the tank capacity is a very accurate indicator of cruising range. I can count on about 100 miles more after '0' on the cruising range.
The disturbing part is that the low fuel light is on, and the guage is WELL below 'E'.
I run 0W-20 and have a mostly highway commute of 96 miles daily.
Good Luck!
