Default Bubbling / Blistering on Alloy Rims

My 2007 TCH has pretty bad bubbling / blistering on the alloy rims. I did a search on other websites and see that this is a common problem that crosses some Toyota models. Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone gotten Toyota to do anything about it? My vehicle has ~62K miles on it right now.

This is kind of disappointing since the alloy wheels on all my other earlier model Toyota vehicles never had this problem.

My 2004 Sienna has the same problem, I run the same rims all year long. I run steel rims thru the winter on my 2007 Camry, no problems so far on the alloy rims...

hah... pics, please? 'd love to see them. some alloys have plastic coating, and it peals off/bubbles. like a protective wrap.

the only way alloy can "bubble" is if it has internal caverns, filled with air, and some sort of heat causes it to burst out. I'd not be driving on those. Unless it does have that plastic film on it....

The OEM rims on TCH's from 2007-2010 have a coat of clearcoat. It protects the metal from corrosion. It can be re-coated by any paint shop. It might be cheaper to buy a new rim on ebay.

Here is the pic of the bubbling I am talking about. This is happening on all 4 wheels. I called Toyota and they seem to know nothing about it nor do they want to do anything about it. This is despite having found numerous other complaints on the same issue.

yeah, it's clearly not metal. some sort of outside coating. repaint rims.

That looks like some sort of corrosion on the aluminum beneath the paint.

I am having a similar problem with mine on one of the wiper arms at the base.

My 2007 TCH wheels look the same... I noticed it starting when the car was less than 2 yrs old.

The rims on my 2007 are worse, the corrosion has even got into the bead area of the wheel and one tire loses pressure.
I did bring it to the attention of the service manager he said " if I had told them during the warranty period they would have done something for me" a rather cryptic answer
