Default Battery Drain?

I've noticed when I'm stopped at a traffic light, if I haven't pushed the break pedal all the way to the floor, the non-nav display shows energy going from the battery to the wheel. If I press harder, the graphic stops the energy flow even if I then ease up on the break.

The vehicle is at a complete standstill.

Is there in fact an energy drain if I don't push the break all the way down or is it just an error in the computer display?

I noticed this on a Prius I rented a few months back as well.

I've noticed this as well, and an un-official guess is that it is to provide that "creep" that is normal and expected in a regular automatic transmision car. It probably does use some battery power, but my guess is not much is used, as not much work is being done. Pressing harder on the brake pedal stops it, but you wouldn't feel that creep with the pedal depressed so far anyway. Others, feel free to correct me if needed.

Jeff nailed it.

The TCH is designed to "feel" like a standard automatic. So light pressure will still allow the car to try and creep forward. It's a little annoying sometimes. You just need to remember to press harder.

I believe that these answers are correct.

Thanks, I had a feeling that might be it. Just seems odd when the tires aren't in fact creeping. Though it makes sense, especially if stopped on a slight incline so there's not a rollback when you switch from the break to the gas.

Personally I like the hybrids slow roll forward and back when in gear. While sitting at a red light, you can move the selector forward to neutral till the light changes. Just be sure to pull it to Drive so you can drive on.
