Re: 1000 Mile Oil Change?
I need some feedback on this one. I have always changed my oil on a new car at 1,000 miles and again at the 5,000 interval. I contacted my dealer and they claim that this is old school and not at all necessary with the TCH. I am at just over 1,000 mi now and I am wondering how may TCH owners waited till 5K or did it sooner. Just curious.

It is old school, and now just a ploy to get you back into the dealership to start having your vehicle serviced there. A couple of years ago Lexus dropped this practice, and replaced it with a free service visit to have the "Lexus Personalized Settings" - door lock opration, auto-on light setting, etc. - adjusted to your liking one time free of charge.

Re: 1000 Mile Oil Change?
I just changed the oil (myself) at 5,600 miles...first oil change. The old oil still looked new. BTW, it was very easy access to the filter and plug...quite possibly the easiest oil change I've ever done.
The warning statement is easy to reset...i think the directions are on page 140 in the owner's manual. took literally 5 seconds to reset. |

Re: 1000 Mile Oil Change?
I had thoughts of the engine being tight with the engine kicking on and off. I'm a easy driver on a regular gas engine, but I got to thinking of how many times the engine starts and stops like when driving in town.
I went to my local toyota dealer and bought 5 quarts of toyota 5w-20 dino oil. The only problem was the high price at $3.99 per quart. I'm almost sure this is the same as the dino mobil oil at Walmart. There, its a dollar or more cheaper. Big deal, were talking only $5. I put in 4 1/4 quarts for the change. I had to add a little more in the next few days. That may be it takes 4 1/3 quarts with the filter. I also bought 5 quarts of toyota 0w-20 full synthetic to put in at 5000 miles. I got 2500 miles to go. I'm looking forward to the synthetic in this engine. I use the oem oil filters from the toyota parts counter. |
