Honk if you simply hate cars
By Jim Sollisch

Yesterday, gas prices topped $2.60 a gallon in my neighborhood. I spent $37 filling up my Honda Civic and was reminded how much I hate cars. In fact, let me count the ways:

I hate cars personally, as in "I hate you. You're so needy. You cost me too much. You bruise too easily. I hate you."

I hate them for their hypocritical metaphorical status. Note to every American novelist of the last 80 years: The automobile is not the engine of freedom and self-expression you promised.

I hate cars culturally. The Hummer is the new ugly American. It could only happen here.

I hate cars for their gluttony. I hate them for their politics. I hate them for their lies.

He must have run it completely dry and have one of those super-capacity tanks that a few members of the forum seem to have. $37 at $2.60 is 14.23 gallons. Oh and he's wrong about the Hummer only happening here. In Europe they have the Mercedes Galandewagen or whatever it's called, which was just recently put on sale in the US as the G500. They also sell the Unimog to the public in some places, which is an even more hillarious vehicle. Let's also not forget the first mega-SUV of the modern era, the Lamborghini LM002 with it's 400+ horsepower V12 engine and approximate 8 miles per gallon. Again, not a US creation. Human nature is pretty much universal.
