RXh Tire Pressure, psi

Hi all,

I wanted to know what other RXh owners are setting their tire pressure to. When I got my car from the dealer, all 4 tires were at 40psi. I thought that was kind of high since the driver's side b-pillar says 30psi. So I lowered all 4 tires to 31-32 psi. Currently I'm getting 21.5mpg (car still only has 300 miles). I'm hoping that as it breaks-in, mileage will go up. But I want to do all I can now to start getting better mpg.

So what pressure do you have in your tires? I have AWD so I'm guessing I can set an equal pressure for all 4 tires.

Also, after I lowered the pressure to 32psi, I noticed when I have my windows down that the tires sound kind of "squishy" when driving/cornering. Is that normal? I don't want the tires to wear out too fast, and I want good gas mileage. Any tips are welcome.

Re: RXh Tire Pressure, psi

I have a 2006 HiHy, not a Lexus, but the resuls should be similar. I found that 40 PSI resulted in the best gas mileage. It is less than the maximum for the goodyear tires (44 PSI). YMMV.

Note that I initially read 40 PSI using a standard (cheap) tire gauge. When I got a digital tire gauge it read 5 PSI lower. Since adjusting tire pressure to 40PSI I suspect that it will make up for my using air conditioning, maintaining my 30 MPG average.

When I take take my first long trip (PA to FL) in July, I expect 30 MPG highway, above the 27 MPG EPA estimate. This will be despite a loaded car on the way down, but empty on the way back.

Isn't this fun?
