This was tested with 6 minute full charge / discharge cycles.
Phosphate based too, so no fire/explosion worries.
Goodbye gasoline!

Interesting indeed. Phoenix Motorcars has placed an initial order of $750,000 for Altair Nanotechnologies new fast charge (6 minutes) lithium batteries.
The current production plan is for 10 vehicles by the end of 2006 (in process), 500 vehicles in 2007, 5,000 in 2008, 20,000 in 2009, 50,000 in 2010 and 100,000 in 2011. Initial pricing is in the low to mid $40K range.
This just may be the breakthrough that renders Chevron/Cobasys NiMH patent issue a moot point. Chevron has been been suing every manufacturer of large capacity (>10 Amp hour) NiMH battery cells, thus removing them from the market.
Remember the Toyota EV RAV4 and the Ford EV Ranger? They both used 95 Amp hour NiMH batteries. Looks like Altair just might have the 'magic bullet' that EV makers need for decient range vehicles!

Hope Pheonix Motorcars stick with their production plans...my next car was going to be PHEV, but if they got the decent SUV/SUT that's <$40k in a few years...exciting news indeed!

I was thinking that too, and their current price is quite reasonable too! Unfortunately, I have no disposable income for that

Wouldnt it be interesting if their stock price tracks the number of "views" on this thread?

Here are a few more links about Altairnano's nanosafe 35 and 70 KWh battery packs. I would love to hear what the physical specs are. They are delivering 10 of the 35 KWh packs in Q4 of this year.
