. . .
Even though doomsayers predicted the hybrid's shelf life would be short and sweet, it's still chugging along and even gaining momentum, like the "little engine that could" from the children's storybook.
. . .
"The hybrids have been profitable since very early on," said Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. spokesman Wade Hoyt. "We're not losing money on it. It's not a charity operation. We see the market as expanding."
. . .
"I love it. I wouldn't go back to a regular cab," said Paul Gillespie, the driver representative for the city's seven-member taxi commission. "It saved me between $4,000 and $5,000 in gas last year."
. . .
In the hybrid's early days — around 1999 or 2000 — consumers and automakers were hesitant to latch onto the trend in part because of the fear that the battery would die every so often and be expensive to replace.
But the oldest hybrids are still running on their original batteries, 100,000 miles or more later.
. . ."
The most vocal hybrid skeptics in my neck of the woods were the 'ditto heads' who lived by whatever Fox told them. Now, Fox is backing off and actually making hybrids sound OK. You know what this means . . . the price of hybrids is going up.

A fair and unbiased article from Fox? What will Rush Limbaugh say? The horror... The horror...
Actually, I still remember the Rush Limbaugh tirade the day before Thanksgiving, when he said that all hybrid owners are athiests who reject God, Capitalism, and America. Ha ha ha ha!

- I found it interesting that Rush Limbaugh drives a black Escalade and endangered his court settlement when found with some Viagra he was not supposed to have. That does not necessarily prove anything, but it does support a profile....
- I have a fish sticker just under my rear-view mirror, because I wanted to remind myself to set a good example, but was afraid I'd snap enough times to send the wrong message if I did that with a bumper sticker. Ironically, the past couple of years, a Christian bumper sticker would not get me in trouble since I don't do agressive driving...
- Back to the topic: I have 105,000 miles on my Insight. The only major repair is the hybrid battery pack. That is due to the software fixes need on the model 2000, and a couple of years of agressive driving. Still, it's holding up much better than my 1988 CRX HF when it was at this point. It was on it's third CV boot, needed a replacement transmission, a third brake pad.

It's nice to see a positive article--some do not know what to do.
Nice find!!!
I thought this quote was particularly interesting.
Even Disney (DIS) didn't deem hybrids or their all-electric forerunners sexy enough for its animated movie "Cars."
The original premise — an electric car tries to make its way in a gas-guzzling world — was scrapped in favor of the final storyline about a race car, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com).
