Default Finally - A Pro HEV Article (kinda)

In this era of hybrid bashing, it is interesting to note that some businesses (such as UPS) consider hybrid technology worth exploring.

------

ROSWELL, Ga. - As fuel prices have reached record highs, gas-electric hybrid cars have made it to the consumer mainstream. But using hybrids in commercial fleets is new. For many companies, this new technology may be something of a gamble. Still, some big companies are investing in hybrids, and reducing fuel costs at the same time. One of those is UPS.

"Wait and see" is a heck of an improvement over "hybrids are an expensive fad". If UPS and Fed-Ex end up vindicating the use of large-motor hybrids, that would put a *big* dent in our foreign oil dependence.

And the fact that they are considering HEV's as realistic options should go a long way toward putting the ball in the naysayers court. It should have some positive impact on whether the general public will see hybrids as an option.

And if they should ultimately decide to go for hybrids in a big way, I suspect the world will turn upside down for the hybrid bashers.

This would be a boost for hybrid technology!

If I was a company spending $2.1 Billion on fuel costs in a year, I would be looking for anyway to reduce it.

It is encouraging that people/companies seem to be very slowly accepting that hybrids are worth giving a shot.
