Default Delphi strike? So what?

Interesting that this commentary appeared in a Detroit media outlet. They usually cheerlead for the auto industry.

Do they now?

Considering that I read the Detroit Free Press every day, I haven't seen a "cheerlead" article for the big three in ages. Usually it's more of a macabe view, like watching two trains about to collide, and realizing that they can't hear you to prevent it.

Sure, they run some positive articles every now and then, like when the Dodge Calibur launched, but I'd hardly call that cheerleading by any stretch of the imagination.

Just an opinion, but if the UAW stages a strike at Delphi and Delphi ceases to exist as a result of that, the ripple effect would cripple the concept of unions and seriously weaken the political influence they currently have. Two many innocent people would be hurt in the process and the anti-union backlash could be fierce. It would be easy to say "it was the management at Delphi that caused this", but if the company is no longer around to accept blame that leaves union leadership to explain its role in the whole episode.

Peace,

Martin

Organized labor did a great job killing Eastern Airlines back in the 1990s
