Default ClipperCreek introduces low-cost Level 2 home charger for $590

ClipperCreek may not be offering the least expensive Level 2 home-charging station on the US market, as it says it is, but it's not too far off the mark and gives the Golden State something to be proud of. The California-based company just starting selling its HCS-40 product, a 30-amp, 240-volt Level 2 charging station with a retail price of $590. The station is indoor-outdoor rated, includes a 25-foot long cable and comes equipped with a three-year warranty. ClipperCreek says installation is pretty simple, complete with two wall screws and three power wires. That makes the HCS-40 installable via any licensed electrician. Buyers can also pay an extra $19 for a connector holster. Cowboy up!

Whether the HCS-40 is apples to apples with the Bosch Automotive Solutions-made home-charging station announced earlier this year is another matter. In May, Bosch announced its Power Max product with a $450 starting price. That's roughly half what other folks had been charging for their Level 2 home chargers. That product was designed to work with all electric vehicles sold domestically and has both 16-amp and 30-amp configurations. Bosch began taking orders for the Power Max in May and started shipping the product the following month. Now that there's some lower-cost competition, check out ClipperCreek's press release below.Continue reading ClipperCreek introduces low-cost Level 2 home charger for $590
