Hello ladies and gentleman, I recently found your forum through google, and I think this is the best place to get some help.

I need a car.

but, in order of importance, it needs to be:
~$2000
able to carry 8 people comfortably
tow very heavy trailers (~4,000 lbs?)
easy to work on and reliable
comfortable to drive for long distances, full of people and towing.
fuel efficient.

so I have looked around, and really my best option is diesel. there is a diesel suburban that looks nice (link) but I would like to first get some opinions from some experts/people more knowledgeable than myself.

I found a 1976 cutlass supreme cruiser, with a BBO 455 (7.5 liter) V8 that will tow well more than I need it to. it is a 9 passenger car. it currently gets 8 mpg, but with a new 4-speed transmission, de-smogged heads, and a new dual exhaust with the catalytic converter cut off (not needed in texas) that should get me in the teens for less than $500.
