"without a $2,000 subsidy on a new-car purchase"
The deduction was one of many reasons for my choosing a hybrid car. I know that there are many, many people who would not have made the pruchase without one.
Also, it is not a $2,000 giveaway but a tax deduction. I was able to keep $500.00 of my hard-worked money in my own pocket, instead of a politician's.

I can't say I'm in that much support of hybrid deductions. The technology is going to take off even without the government's assistance. Of course, the government should invest in cleaner technology. But, they don't need to invest in hybrids, anymore. The manufacturers are taking care of that, now.
