Open Flextreme Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept
We were at Frankfurt's Bockenheimer Depot for GM's revealing of the Opel Flextreme Diesel Concept, the latest sheetmetal incarnation of the company's E-Flex architecture. The system uses a series hybrid system supported by a diesel engine operating at peak efficiency to charge a battery pack from from power supply firm A123. GM vice chsirmsn Bob Lutz took time out from flogging training jets to act as MC for the event, which included a light show and modern dance routine straight out of Mumenschanz circa 1977, minus the toilet paper rolls. We'll have a gallery up momentarily.

Looks like the Toyota concept, sounds like the Volt concept.
Supposedly it's close to ready - just waiting on Lithium battery technology advancement. Sound familiar? I'm hopeful, though, since this song-n-dance IS being carried out, and not just by GM.

The Opel-branded concept sure is a lot prettier than the Volt. I sure hope that GM figures out some way to built it.
I wonder, if the car does go into production, whether the buyer will get to choose between gasoline or diesel. My only gripe with low-sulphur diesel is that the only place to buy it in Baltimore is Exxon -- not the most environmentally-friendly oil company out there.

This is just hilarious. Look at the pics and you would see that the driver in that car seemed cramped. See the pic where the announcer is standing with the driver. This guy is on one of those gadgets but I bet he is still pretty tall. I got the message that its a roomy car, but it likely delivered the opposite message to those less observant.
