Default 85.5mpg over 257 miles - Could have been 95mpg

A little over a week ago, I drove to Colorado again. After an hour leaving Dallas traffic, I slowed from 60-65mph to 45mph on Hwy 287 along the Red River during the night. Thinking if I'd just tracked it after the engine was warmed up and poking at 45mph, it might have been as high as 95mpg. It peaked at 85.5, then my stop set it down just bit before taking this picture:

In 1988, I got 76mph driving from Dallas to Witcha Falls in my CRX HF - record finally broken. Funny thing was I parked on the side with the rail tracks, then 45 minutes later I had one rude awaking when a train passed by. The rest of the trip to Colorado I averaged 60mpg - got in a hurry.

Isn't it fun to "beat" your old records? I don't know if there will be any more recordbreaking in my Insight this year, but congrats to you!

I'm being consistent with my Dr. Jekill/Mr. Hyde driving personallity - hyper-miler before 8am - often agressive afterwards.

The irony of this is I did not consciously do a pulse and glide. Yes, I'd get down to 39mph, then go to 45 or 50.

My morning commutes, I'll go as low as 50mph, but that's about as low as I go on an open Dallas freeway for fear of getting killed.
