Default Parking (newbie)

I just posted pictures of my new HCH that I got today. I noticed when I pulled into a parking spot, the car auto-stopped, but when I shifted into park, the engine started up again. That seems odd.

That is not odd at all. The auto stop feature works only in D(rive). As soon as you move it to P(ark), the gas engine resumes. You can then turn it off.

Or you can stop (and auto-stop) and shut the car off. Then you can put it in park.

I agree that it's odd, but one reason, as the other responder alludes, is that the engine is starting for reverse, which you pass through to get to park.

Congrats on your totally awesome new car!

You can also shift to lower range while parking. That way A/S does not do its thing. Enjoy the car, H

Auto-stop functions in (D)rive or (N)eutral. My "shutting off the car" pattern:
- Pull into parking spot. AS engages
- Shift to N
- Pull hand brake
- Shut off car
- Foot off service brake
- Shift to P
- Pull key

Shift to N,
Turn car all the wayoff,

Why bother shifting into N? I usually just shut the car off when the car is in D, keeping my foot on the brake until I've shifted into park and engaged the parking brake.

To make sure the transmission is fully disengaged from the drive shaft.

Stop on a hill, let AS engage, put it P, let foot off brake, car rolls back.

Restart car, put car in P, let foot off brake, hear BAM! from CVT.

Never do it without unsing N again.
