Default INSURANCE????WOW?

I just took delivery a couple of weeks ago of my Civic Hybrid and called my insurance company. This car is about 50% higher than my 06 325i BMW. The customer service rep. replied that all Hybrids were more costly to insure. I guess just when you think your saving so much in gas the other guys want to make up for it.......by the way, I have Wawanesa Insurance and by far they have the best rates I have ever had. Wondering if everone had the same suprise on their bill. I have no accidents or tickets and paying 1100.00 per year for this car alone!!!! OUCH!!!

My insurance did go up because i went from a 2002 to a 2006.Then come renewal time i received a 10% discount from Travelers because it was a Hybrid. After all the ups and downs my insurance was lower in the end.

Ours went up $26 per month (from $159 to $185) but we went from a '97 CRV to the '06 HCH2, so I don't consider that unusual.

Nationwide tried to jump me from $330/6mo for my '96 Sable to $550 for the '06 HCH. Needless to say, I was already looking for an excuse to change after I heard how they've been treating the Gulf Coast residents (No, the missing roof isn't wind damage, it's flood, which isn't covered). Hello, Geico Gecko!

I have American Family Insurance and for my 98 Buick Regal GS I was paying $216/6mn.. When I got my 2006 HCHII 2 months ago my premium went up $61/6mn. or about $10/mn. I believe this is reasonable.

I traded in an 02 Outback for an 06 Civic Hybrid. I received $50 back (several months left on the premium) after switching the insurance to the Civic. I was under the impression that most insurance companies gave discounts for hybrids. It could also be that the VIN showed up as an EX in my insurance company's records. They said their records probably weren't up to date. (It did show up as a hybrid when I did the state registration.)

Has anybody else had a drop in premium with their new hybrids?

hi
we purchased ours as a business vehicle under our corporation name. We also live in florida so our insurance was a whopping $714 per 6 months.

%$#$^!!!

our agent told us that it was 41k to replace -florida rates are a ripoff anyway- and its business.

to compare, the escort was $360 for 6 months. Back in ohio it was $180 for 6 months!!!

Mine is about the same from our '03 Acura TL Type-S. Hybrid or not, they have no penalty. Time to look for you to look another insurer. Our TL was higher in '03 as new because the rates were based on value and cost of parts at the time. As prices and values came down, so did our insurance. I've only heard of lowered insurance costs (Traveller's) with Hybrids, not an increase. Have them quote a regular Civic and see what the difference is. Also, make sure all the safety endorsements are included.

Smaller cars do often have higher insurance ratings because of crash testing but the Civic does incredibly well in that dept. The Bimmer is one class of car size higher I believe and also may have more safety (Stability control, more airbags?? (doubt it) and better crash rating and parts costs within its class.

We have Geico (love them!) Got lots of discounts due to: 6 Airbags including curtains; high crash safety rating; daytime running lights; passive security system with ignition lockout.

I'd get some new quotes.

We are paying $1,500 per year in New York (Long Island) but that includes $250 collision deductible and 250 comprehensive with full glass. One car (no multi-car discount); clean driving and accident records. We also have $1,500 rental reimbursement (30 days) which I took out.

I've been rear-ended 2 times in last 3 years (non-chargable and non affecting accidents) and had to pay about $100 per rental with taxes and fees and upgrades to a half-decent car. Plus we had a hit and run within the first months with Geico (parked) plus 1 comprehensive claim. Our rates have NEVER increased, only decreased. Geico really do it right.

It's the least we've ever paid for one car, and we had higher deductibles (500/500) in the past.

I'm with Progressive. My insurance costs went down. I had an 04 SRT-4 and was paying 40 bux more every 6 months then I am now. I'm paying about 450 a year for mine in insurance.

Welcome to the Taxachusetts high auto insurance rate club. The state sets the rates and discourages open market competition so there are only a few companies that do business here. Between my 05HCH and wife's 01 Accord we pay $2200 per year, live in the burbs, spotless driving records, no accidents or tickets. Thanks to rampant insurance fraud, "jump-in's" at staged crashes and old people (who for medical reasons should not be driving) doing "drive thru's" where none existed before, all the good drivers pay for the other's mistakes....
