Even though Chevy will no longer make the hybrid version of the Malibu, I know of several people who get much higher MPG in their non-hybrid Malibus than EPA estimates. My own 2007 Malibu LS with I-4 engine gets 32 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. And there are a lot of gently used Malibus out there for sale for well under $10K.
