Unhappy TIGERHONAKER replaces front windshield in his HCH II

Tigerhonaker, on his way home from the Acura Dealer has rock from SUV way in front of him thrown through the 1st layer of glass on windshield.

Good-News is I had a New Windshield installed this week two days after the crash of the ROCK hitting it.

What a way to Open Your Eyes Wide-Open in a Hurry.

The SUV was just jealous when it threw the rock.

Sorry that happened Terry. I know you take a lot of pride in the appearance of your car and it shows.

At least it didn't dent your hood or anything!
A few years ago I was driving at night in our Grand Caravan and a truck approx 300 feet ahead tossed a pipe or something. It dented our hood and made a dime size & deep pit in the glass. I didn't even see it but was enough to make my wife duck!

Hi Steve,

Man I have not heard from you in a Very-Long time. Nice to hear from the South and another HCH Man.

Say I take it that you did not make it up to Hybridfest. Since I am reading this Post.

As you might know last Oct. my position was elliminated after 11-Yrs. with the Chevy Dealership.

I now work for an Acura Dealer and started there two weeks after the Chevy Dealership thing happened.

So No-Vac. for me. Also it was really a Very-Long Drive there and Back to Hybridfest.

Well if you get the time sent me a PM and let me know how you are doing these days.

tigerhonaker, what did it cost to replace the windshield? Mine has a crack, from a rock, that is progressively getting bigger. I am almost ready for an A1 service, also need to take care of that 06 recall , so I was holding out to take care of the items all at once.

I have XM and in the 06 they attached the antenna in the upper right hand of the windshield. I am going to push that they run the wires to the roof antenna, like the 07s. The windshiled mount seems tacky and since I need to replace it anyway, seemed like a good time to take care of that too.

I agree with you on the X/M Sat. Antenna, it does not exactly look real (Great). I have the same set up.

Price for the (Factory-Windshield) is Approx: $1,000.00 with New Moldings from Honda and the windshield from Honda.

I "Did-Not" do the Factory Windshield or the Factory Moldings from a Honda Dealer.

I chose to do the after market windshield and it cost me right at $297.00. Installed:

The reason I did not do the Factory Windshield was because I work for a Honda/Acura Dealer now and even with my "Employee-Pricing" it was going to be the above ($1,000-1,100) Cost Installed.

I called the glass company that we use to install our windshields and they gave me the "Employee-Price" for the After-Market Windshield Installed with New-Moldings. So I ask them what the Real/Honest Difference was between the windshield that has the HONDA on the Glass and the one that did not.

You will find this interesting:

None/No-Difference/Period, The one the Honda Dealer sells has the Logo and the other does not have the Honda-Logo. The Glass comes from the SAME-PLACE so it would be obvious that there is No-Difference in it. But if you just have to have the Honda-Logo then you are going to really pay for it.

I just wanted a New Windshield and also got a (Life-Time) Warranty on it. So even if you choose to use the Honda Dealer make sure to get "Both-Prices" on the Windshields. Honda/After Market. We do both windshields for the Customers that come in to have them Replaced.

Good-Luck and I hope this Info. has Helped You:

Thanks for the reply, Terry. I will inquire about non-oem glass out here in SoCal. It doesn't matter to me as long as I can see through it.

That is the "Point" that it is New and does the same thing for the Owner, You Look through it.
Later,
