Default Replacement Battery Costs

I am researching replacement of the IMA battery and someone told me that the battery costs between $5,000 and $6,000. Is this true?
I know that they have an 8yr 80,000 warranty but what if I keep my car for 10+ years? I know that I shouldn't worry about it as I don't even have the car yet but I was just wondering...they also claimed that they need replacing like any other rechargeable battery. This can't be totally true...can it?

No that's not true. In fact the replacement costs were just reduced. I don't remember the exact numbers off hand, but if you search the site you will find them. I am thinking $1900.

Note that through increased popularity of these batteries their costs will only go down over time as production increases. So, I wouldn't worry.

Well, that article was encouraging and I guess as Hybrids get more popular and into the mainstream...battery prices will continue to come down like any other technology and the prices will continue to drop.
And they claimed in the article about getting 180,000 miles on a battery, if that is even remotely true...this is a non-concern then!

Thanks for the link to that article!

Not trying to be a smarty, but if you are concerned about the battery, why did you wait until after you bought the car to research costs? Just curious.

Sometimes we don't think of every possible question there is. I've never worried about the battery, as I never had an ounce of trouble with my HCH I and the 88,300 miles I drove it. I 've got a 120,000 mile warranty on the HCH II, including battery, bumper to bumper, so no need to worry about it with this car either. With 24,400 miles on the car, all I have spent on maintenance is $102 for the one B1 service needed thus far.

I have no doubts about the car but I don't quite own it yet. I pen the deal on August 15th or so. I was just asking to edumacate myself about the car and its components. I still have many questions but not enough to deter my decision as I am very excited about getting the car. As I have stated in another thread, I keep my cars for more than 10 + years. Was thinking about owning the car for a long long time and how to handle the battery situation if it may need to be changed. If I sounded like I was worried...not at all. Just asking questions...as a newbie should!
