I just changed the oil today on my HCH 2 with 17K miles and found what appears to be a leaking crankshaft seal on the front. Has anyone else had this? It doesn't appear to be a major leak at this point and I've got an out of state trip coming up very soon, too soon for the dealer to fix it.

 

Just did my 17k change last weekend. Everything was dry, and I drained 3.3 quarts out (after putting in 3.4 quarts about 9,000 miles ago).

How much oil did you get out of the crankcase?

During my first oil change at 8K, I noticed oil stains on the CVT pan, which I wiped up. It was completely dry during this change. I'd say it was just splash from the road surface, but I don't know how that's possible with the lower shield covering everything.

 

It didn't look that significant, and I watch my oil level regularly, but I do smell a burning smell from time to time. I hope this isn't the start of something bad...

 

We just drained it into a collection recepticle, it was on a lift.
