IMA replacement for out-of-warranty 2006 HCH
Hey everyone! I'm a long-time reader but first-time poster.
I'm having similar issues to what many of you are having with the IMA (daily recals, erratic charging behavior, lower fuel economy post-"upgrade"). Unfortunately, I bought my car used and, at ~80K, it's also out of warranty.
I'm assuming I'm simply out of luck but wanted to see if any of you have gone after Honda for a replacement for your out-of-warranty Honda and had any success.
Thanks,
Tim
PS - apologies if I missed another thread on this topic

Hi Tim:
Some folks have had IMA packs replaced after warranty, but if you have no IMA light on it may be difficult to convince them to do it! If you think the issue is a hazard to you and your passengers then maybe you you could convince Honda to do something? This is a very big issue with many HCH owners! H

Re: IMA replacement for out-of-warranty 2006 HCH
Hi Tim
I bought my car used in 5/2009 with roughly 40,000 mi (HCH II 2006). I just got my battery replaced with 87,500 mi earlier this month. I was surprised since I almost never bring in the car to the dealership for service. The most I had done with the dealer is 50K service (which was way overpriced at nearly $800) + buying random parts such as wiper blades, CVT fluid, oil washers, clips, etc. from the parts department.
I think it's YMMV depending on who your dealer is. I was really lucky with Brown's Arlington Honda in Arlington, VA. No idea where you're located, but perhaps there are dealers more willing to do this than others? You may want to check out my post about my experience getting the IMA battery replaced.

Re: IMA replacement for out-of-warranty 2006 HCH
According to the terms of the new proposed settlement, the IMA battery warranty will be extended for an additional 12k miles and 12 months, whichever comes sooner.
Unfortunately this may not take effect until the settlement is approved. The earliest date of which I have read is October, 2012.
If you have out of pocket expenses related to replacing the IMA battery pack within the 8-9 year timeframe or 80-92k mile mark, there is a way to get reimbursed as per terms of the settlement, however.
