We just came back from a Thanksgiving trip to Las Vegas in our HCHII. Thanks to global warming we were able to go over the Sierra through Yosemite and Tioga Pass. Normally this time of year there is about 8-10 feet of snow on this pass, and the road would have been closed for a month or two. But this year the pass was clear with no snow whatsoever!. Here we are on the road by Tenaya Lake at 8150 ft (2480m).

This was our first trip with the car in high elevations, and it did great. There was only one time that the IMA battery got down to one bar, and the MPGs only dropped to 34 mpg at the summit of 9960 ft (3031m). I would not hesitate in recommending driving this car in the mountains.

For the outbound part of the trip to Las Vegas that took us over the pass, we the completed the segment with 42 mpg at an average speed of 67 mph, but on the return trip we took the conventional route on Interstate 15 & 5 and got 48 mpg at 70 mph. Even at that speed we were almost the slowest thing on the road. We made it back to the house in less than one tank with 1 bar still on the gas gauge!
Gotta love the HCH!

Nice pics, G. Snow: global warming, much ?
I was pretty 'high' in Denver driving cross country this past summer...I had like 30% of normal power, hah...but I don't think it was over that mark.
Darn hippies, man

I've gotten up to 12,180' on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. I got 52.4mpg for the ~400 mile loop, and I had a bike on top of the car!
