HID Retrofit

Re: HID Retrofit
Hey gumby, I used the search option before posting but my results came back mainly as HID conversion kits. I'm not bothering with the kit and just wanted to see or know who has done a retrofit. Thanks.

Re: HID Retrofit
Your best bet is the conversion kit. It it all entirely plug-n-play and takes about 1 hr to install (for the HCH you have to go through the wheel well to access the headlights). You may get it done quicker, but I took my time with having to remove the wheels and all. I don't know that you can easily retrofit for HIDs, as they require a ballast to get the bulb lit. I wouldn't want to have to try to splice wires or any of that stuff, because that could be asking for trouble. The plug n play is the way to go, IMO.

Re: HID Retrofit
A retrofit will end up costing about $1000 -$1200, and will look great, have a nice cut-off, etc., but a conversion kit will cost you about $150 or less, and will give you 90% of the value and lighting quality of the retrofit.
I have had a conversion kit on my HCHII for almost 2 years with no problems, and it provides excellent lighting. I have never had any problems with glare or with the lighting pattern. I highly recommend the conversion route.
There is one other path you could consider. In the ROW (rest of world) HCHII there is a HID option, and those headlight assemblies would plug right into your HCHII. The only issue is that the headlight assemblies are shaped differently than the US ones, and it will require a new front bumper cover, hood, and fenders. These parts are readily available in Canada as the Acura CSX is essentially a tarted up ROW Civic.
