Engine light came on - 2200km over warranty
Grrr. I was in Austin for business all week, and my poor '06 Civic Hybrid was parked in the bitter cold for a week. When I returned and started it up, the Engine light came on.
Of course, with the car being 2200km over the 60k warranty, it is going to cost $110 just to find out what is wrong.
Anyone else had issues like this? The manual says it is likely an emission system failure (my guess is 02 sensor), but who knows.
Guess I will find out this afternoon.

Check your fuses. In my "other" vehicle the engine light illuminated due to a blown condenser fan fuse. I still haven't fixed it. I haven't see the need for a fan in the winter yet.

Well, good news, good news and gooder news
Firstly, the diagnostics at teh dealership indicated that the engine light came on due to a malfunction of the engine coolant temperature sensor. Then, amazingly, the service advisor told me they would cover it (and the diagnostic test) under warranty, knowing full well that I had exceeded 60,000km. the part was not in stock, so I was told I would get a call when it is to bring the car back in.
Then, this morning, the light did not come on. Methinks the extreme cold caused a temporary glitch, but seeing as they are going to replace the sensor under warranty, figure I might as well go through with it.
Who would've thunk a car dealership would do something like this?

Excellent news Brian.
Yes, there are good dealerships and then... there are the bad ones.
The element of fairness here is not to roll all dealerships into a "bad" or a "good" camp. With some homework of our part and a bit of luck added, it is possible to save money while protecting one's "investment" when servicing one's car at a "good" dealership.
It looks like those folks you are dealing with are OK.
Cheers;

Yes, good news. It is great when things work out well! Good luck in the future. I guess that check engine light must come on for all malfunctions under the hood? H
