Driving 900 miles straight through From Chicago to Jersey tomorrow, will post MPG's..
Hey Everyone,
I'll be leaving for Jersey from Chicago early tomorrow morning, driving straight through (@900 miles) with only pit-stops etc so anyone interested in my overall MPG's check back on Wednesday, I'll post that info and try to put a pic up of the tripometer. Going to try to get near 60 for the trip........that's my goal anyhow.
Jason.

Bet your mpgs are going to be better on the way there than the way back--I bet you drive a lot faster leaving Jersey than you did leaving Chi-town!

After 20,000 miles, here's what I've seen on my cross-country trips:
70 mph cruise = 43 mpg
65 mph cruise = 47 mpg
60 mph cruise = 53 mpg
So to get 60 mpg, you'll have to stick to the old double-nickel. Less than that if you have a head wind.
That's going to be a long 900 miles -- 16 hours, not counting stops.

Yeah, we've got a 900 mile (each way) trip coming up in June and I'm not excited about the MPG hit I'm going to take. Sure, we could drive 55 and get good mileage, but I doubt my wife will let me get by with anything less than 65 (and we'll have to use the A/C). It will be years before I get over the MPG hit we took on the same drive over Christmas in the MMH...
I'm curious to see your results SilverStar. What speed did you drive? Did you use cruise? How full are your tires? Did you encounter any stop and go traffic during the drive? Did you draft ever? Were you alone in the car or did you have passengers? I'm guessing no A/C right? Any tips that you found to improve mpg?

I too am planning a road trip. www.bodyforliferoadtrip.com this early July. Little Rock AR to San Diego CA.
I will have three people and luggage which will almost max my 850 pound limit.
