Default looking at a $3900 03 civic hybrid with 131K

the guy is selling it b/c after the car had been sitting for about 7-10 days the IMA and CEL came on when he first drove it again. the dealer recommended the IMA battery be replaced but he doesnt want to spend the money so he is selling it cheap.

i have read that i can get it repaired if it is the IMA battery for around $1200.

what i was wondering is can a low charge on the 12V battery cause those lights to come on? i'm hoping to get the specific codes it threw tomorrow. also i asked to drive it for a day to see if i can find out anything about it.

what can i check to see if the IMA is the problem? is the car a good deal at $3900? book value is close to $6000.

let me know what you think. i need a new car to replace my 09 F250 diesel that is getting 17 MPG for my new commute of 90 miles a day!

Hi,yes I think that is a perfect choice for you,I would mention the miles and ask for a 3,500. And I take it.I would not pay over 10k for a hybrid ,as you take a larger risk in recouping, And In your case vs a daily 90 miles at 17 mpg. Meaning if you can't repair /replace ima battery you still come ahead as the hhc shine at hwy speeds at at around 50 mpg or more if you learn to drive it right, and it's a well build car other than the ima battery, and it can be run with the ima system lights on /part disable or. In time turning the switch off behind the back seat for a complete ima system off,
i read at mpg forum someone did switch it off lighter charging load and the car still was showing charging .car has no alternator but a 140 v to 12vdc down converter. It has to be wired to still charge independently, worst case have a alternator installed 3percent.
I have a 03 the 1 .3 motor stock is a weak snail, but if you do the mods in my thread to add torque you will find that the motor don't need the ima system to get good mpg 45-50 and power ,and is a fun car to drive ,it's a game to get a better tankful.
See about instruction for self leveling about the computer slow charging the ima battery for a few days(put it in neutral for braking) trying to self level the battery.
If you didn't ,stop lite and hill are places that the it would be felt.
The prius shine with electric motor in the city but the civic matches or better in hwy driving .i say it's. A smart small gamble with a large upside.
