I have a 2009 Tahoe Hybrid 4x4. During the purchase of another vehicle I heard from another car dealer (Toyota, of course) that the Chevy Hybrids can't tow a boat because they can't back the boat into the water due to the battery location. I highly doubt this is true (especially since I've searched everywhere online and have come up with nothing), but I'm curious if anyone can confirm this is just a rumor?

 

Congrats on the new Hybrid!

The hybrid battery is located inside the vehicle under the 2nd row rear seat.

The GM hybrid does a very nice job towing a normal size boat that is rated for the vehicle to and from out of the water.

If you monitor this forum, you will gain confidence in this vehicle especially when Hillbilly_Hybrid adds in his technical expertise.

The GM hybrid owners on this forum are very knowledgeable about their hybrids as well.

 

I call B. S. on the Toyota dealer! I have towed and launched my 22 foot Sea Ray with 2 Modes. 5000 lbs nominal. 5600 in the photo with Esky.

If I'm not mistaken I have some posted pictures of my Sea Ray at a couple boat ramps behind an Escalade 2 Mode and a VW Toureg.

You would need almost 4" of water in your back seat to swamp the HV battery.

 

Unless you plan on going INTO the water you will be fine. I have used my Silverado Hybrid to launch boats with no problems at all. The Toyota Dealer is just lying to you for fun - must be a slow day.

 

to flood the battery on the ramp, the water must go past the lights which isn't happening.
