Hi everyone,

New to the hybrid community. I am considering buying an 2008 Tahoe with 181000 miles on it. It seems to be priced low and the guy is honest in saying in needs the hybrid battery replaced. However he tells me, "it runs just fine without the battery"

Do these Tahoes run fully on the the gas engine when the battery is toast? or does it NEED the hybrid battery? its something I want to see function down the road but know its a spendy operation.

So basically i am asking. Do these hybrids run like standard tahoes when the battery goes out or am i going to have to plan for battery replacement as soon as i buy it?

He is lying.

A functional hybrid battery is required as it's what powers the motor/generator that starts the engine.

Don't buy it.

Even if is priced right? guy is asking $4600. online tells me it would by $2550 for the install of a new battery. so $7150 when I am done..

I would, and I can rebuild my own battery for "free."
