I think Tesla announced the deposits were completely risk based if the company were to go out of business, but are refundable if you simply change your mind and want your money back. If I am correct in that statement, then people certainly are convinced there investment in pre-purchase is a good one. I think they will have no trouble building a case to get federal funding based on interested consumers plopping down 5 grand without having a product ready to drive!

 

I may get one once its possible for less than $40k. Especially with $7.5k tax credit on top of that. I know someone that got the more expensive model ($120k plus) but thats a little too rich for me Still half the price is much better than the last offering. Things are going to get interesting in about 2 years.

 

I think I may go for the Fisker plug-in hybrid and ease into the whole electric car thing.
