Default conversion to plug in electic of ford fusion

I am in process of looking for a ford 2010-12 escape hybrid (and are hard to fine). I hope to convert the truck to a plug in hybrid. I have found a couple of suppliers but before I jump in I would appreciated any insight you may have regarding drivability. reliability and pricing. Is a smaller or larger battery pack more cost effective etc. I have had some feedback from a Calif. supplier re. a larger battery pack and was concerned over the following.
1.the battery pack weight was 450 lbs.
2.There is no AC cooling outside of general cooing from the cabin ac. I live in Phx. arizona and when I raised this question, I was told just to be sure u keep the car in the garage.
This is my first post so my apologies if I missed the thread(s) on this topic.
