Default 09' FEH - Whining Noise

Our 09' began making a whining noise recently. I noticed it after I pulled into the garage and shut off the vehicle and was walking around the vehicle and it made this loud high pitch squeel and then died down after about 4 seconds and then doesn't do it again until I drove the vehicle.

I was driving it and noticed it now makes the noise every few minutes. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't.

Any ideas, anyone experienced this before?

I'm thinking about taking it into the shop but there is no actual issue with the vehicle. It runs fine for 268k miles. I did have a vehicle back into the front headlight and now the windshield wipers fluid box is no longer sealed but I don't use the fluid with the wipers.

Any ideas is much appreciated.

Thanks,

If this were a prius, I would conclude it's the ABS boost pump. Can you monitor ABS pressure and correlate it to the sound?

By having the car on and ready to drive, but stationary and in Park, can you trigger it by slowly, firmly and repeatedly depressing and releasing the brake pedal?

Hi thank you for your input, our ABS dash light has been triggered quite a bit recently, usually during breaking in rain or when on an angle, sometimes it just takes a good jolt of the car shaking and it will trigger it. after I turn the car off and back on it resets.

I will try what you suggested, it sounds like it may be time for me to take it into the shop.

You mentioned a hit to the headlamp area
I had a high pitch noise coming from an LED aftermarket headlamp
They have a small fan and it was making a noticeable noise
I'd check to see if this happens regardless of having the lights on or not
Good luck

I also have after market headlamps with mini fans on them and the passenger one sometimes flickers because I don't have the connection all that great.. I'll look into that. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks,
The whining noise you’re hearing is likely from a belt or pulley, such as the serpentine belt, tensioner, or an accessory pulley. These can cause brief high-pitched squeals, especially after shutting off the engine or intermittently while driving. Since your vehicle runs fine, it’s not likely a serious issue, but inspecting the belts and pulleys for wear, cracks, or misalignment is a good idea. Taking it to a shop for a quick check can give peace of mind and prevent potential problems, even if everything else seems to be functioning normally.
