43 mpg average!
Several auto magazine writers were able to test drive the new Ford Fusion Hybrid in California and have reported on 43 mpg averages!

That's about what i am getting in my 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Is the Fusion Hybrid a full two-mode hybrid?? I have not seen any info on it. I have owned my TCH for 16 months and have been averaging 39-43mpg since it had around 5,000 miles on it. During the colder months it is a bit lower, but not drastically. It's not frigid cold here though most days.

The FFH is a full hybrid, if that's what you mean by "two mode". The "Two Mode" technology in the GM and Chrysler vehicles are completely different though.
The FFH is capable of EV speeds up to 47MPH. It has a 2.5L Atkinsonized ICE that is similar/same as the one in the 2009 FEH. The Fusion is reported to be an updated version of the FEH drivetrain so the technology has been well proven over the FEH's 5 years of production.

What people need to understand is that 43mpg was achieved without the A/C on which can be easily be accomplished with the Camry Hybrid as well. I have achieved 45 mpg on my Camry hybrid as well!! You just have to drive more conservatively. The Fusion hybrid is just getting hyped up by the media b/c it is an American car that is finally achieving what the Japanese have already been doing for the past 10 years!!

The Fusion Hybrid is getting "hyped up" because it's a genuinely good car to drive that also gets amazing fuel economy.

I have to say that this looks to be one nice ride. I wish they would offer an AWD version.
The fuel mileage looks to me to be spot on. Put a plug in on it and some Li-Ion Batteries and it will easily get 120mpg.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 23, 2008 – The all-new Ford Fusion Hybrid is now officially America’s most fuel efficient mid-size car with a certified 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, topping the Toyota Camry hybrid by 8 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway.
