wiring question??
I will be installing an Eclipse in dash GPS/NAV unit in my 05 FEH shortly(I'm waiting for it to arrive) & it needs a connection to the speed sensor wire.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows where this wire(location/color code etc)is located??? TIA, ~John |
Re: wiring question??
Sorry, I can't help but I do have a question:
Whay does a GPS system need a connection to the speed sensor? Every GPS I have used tells speed naturally as they are a GPS System. Just curious, dsd |
Re: wiring question??
John,
Audiovox makes a speed pulse detector ($30) that should work. New cars have this info on the CAN bus (ODBII) so there is no analog speed pulse wire. The audiovox unit(s) use a magnetic detector like those on the old add-on cruise control systems to generate the required pulse. http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/avx2504165.html http://www.bnotions.com/SPEED_PULSE_..._p/2504165.htm There is also a CAN bus interface that will generate such a pulse, but it is expensive ($200) and requires a good installer. http://www.soundgate.com/index.php?r...&usereferrer=1 I found these on the web by using Google - eclipse "speed pulse" JeffD |
Re: wiring question??
dsd,
I had the same question so I went to the Eclipse site. They seem to use the speed pulse (after calibrating it via GPS) to get a more consistent reading on MPH. JeffD |
Re: wiring question??
I have no idea why it needs it, I have three other NAV units & they don't need any "speed connection" hookup. I do know the Eclipse will operate with out it hooked up so I'm not real worried about it.

I found the info I need.

Re: wiring question??
I believe that (like the factory unit) it can use speed info to maintain fairly accurate location if you lose satellite connection for some reason.

Re: wiring question??
It needs the VSS wire for two reasons:
To "guess" where you are in tunnels ( real or urban, like downtown Chicago ) or when you are in Mountain valleys, and much of the sky is blocked. ( A good thing ) The second reason is to lock out ( prohibit ) some functions while driving. ( A bad thing ) |
