What are the options for retrieving service engine soon and wrench lights on the Escape Hybrid.

I know it does OBDII (I'm assuming CAN)

I have had a intermittent wrench light that goes out after a restart (blend door?) and I am wondering what tools I should have so that I don't have to deal with the stealership everytime I want to pull the codes.

I will fix it myself if it is the battery blend door, I just want to know for sure first.
