Default Oil Change Confusion

I did my first change to Mobil1 on 10/25/07 at 10,250 miles. I now have 16,500 miles and the message center shows Oil Change 12%. So after a full 12 months I will have 7000 miles on the oil.

My question is should I change the oil at 12 months, or go the full 10,000 miles which will take about 17 months? I'd rather be on a mileage based change schedule since all the other service intervals are mileage based.

Anyone see a problem with going 10,000 miles and 17 months on the Mobil1 under "normal" service?

Why not just do the change when the car recommends it? A $22 oil change at the 12 vs 17 month point isn't really a big deal...

Besides I am pretty sure the manual recommends at 1 year, 10000 miles or 200 hours on the ICE.

Five quarts of Mobil1 plus filter and service costs way more than $22.

Yes, manual says " 12 months, 10,000 miles or 200 hours of engine operation."

So to comply with the warranty requirements, I guess I must change at 12 months. Just seems like a shame because the oil is just beginning to darken.

How much are they gouging for an oil change out there in CA?

My wife used to get oil changes in Orange County and they were gouging $40ish for the same thing in Vegas that is $22 and comes with a free car wash.

I paid $48 for my 10,000 mile service and $37.50 for my 20,000 mile service. Both were at Ford dealers but not the same dealer or the same area (same state though). I think I will try a different dealer for the 30,000 to see how they compare. It will be a while though as I'm just shy of 24,000 miles now.

Mobil 1 is a full synthetic, and costs the most. About $7 per quart.

The oil Ford uses at a dealer is mostly dino oil, with a bit of synth. mixed in.

I use Mobil 1 and go 12,000 to 15,000 per change, but that is always in less than one year for me.

Because this oil EXCEEDS the manufacturer's standards, I feel I can push the Oil Change Interval a little longer. Plus I am a gentle driver. Plus, I'm in EV mode for some of those miles. All things to consider. There is not one right way to do the OCI.

Mobil 1 also comes in an "extended life" variety that is "Guaranteed to 15,000 miles" per OCI.

I have an hour meter on my engine also.

In 6 months I've gone 10,000 miles, but put only 180 hours on the runtime meter.

Has anyone tried the new Mobil1 0w20 in an FEH? It meets the Ford spec, so I bought a case and will be putting it in my '05 next time around.

Curious to see if anyone's using it and if they've seen any mileage improvements.

I thought it didn't meet the Ford warranty requirements; the owner's manual says only 5W-20. Mobil recommends it only for out of warranty FEH's.

Actually they recently reformulated, so it meets the Ford WSS-M2C930-A specification which is called out in the owners manual.

The bottle states "Exceeds warranty requirements for many Ford, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Chrysler vehicles"

You're right. I ran the Mobil1.com oil selector tool again, and it did recommend the 0W-20 even for in warranty FEH. I'll give it a try when I get an oil change next month. Thanks for pointing this out!
