Default MOT Retest Confusion – Do I Have to Pay Again?

Hi everyone,

I’m a bit confused about MOT retests and hoping someone can clarify. My car failed its MOT last week due to a broken headlight, which I’ve now fixed. The garage said I can bring it back for a retest, but they mentioned something about partial retests and fees.

Do I have to pay the full MOT fee again, or is there a discounted rate for retests? Also, how soon do I need to bring it back to avoid paying the full price? I’ve heard it’s within 10 working days, but I’m not entirely sure.

Has anyone been through this before? I’d love to know how it works and if there are any tips to make the process smoother.

Also, are there any garages that offer free retests? Any advice would be a huge help!
