Hybridfest, '07
Hi All
One person can only do so much, and I'm afraid I've done as much as I can with the FEH. This hypermiling thing is beginning to be a sickness, rather than a way to save money and the enviroment. Is it a question I would win the hybridfest with the FEH? I just don't see driving that far to prove a point is a good idea.
The fact is, I've given everything I know to everyone in this and other forums, so why should I need to prove anything. If you see that a technique I use helps you, go for it. One thing I know is how to get some great MPG out of my FWD FEH, so I got my money's worth by far.

Thanks Gary for the info provided by you and others on this board. I don't see it as much of a sickness as a goal. You have met it and do not need to prove it to anyone but yourself. Now if there was only a HybridFest down south.......
Gary --
I was really hoping you would be able to make it this year, for my own selfish reasons - in my own stumbling way, I have been able to achieve better-than-EPA mpg's, but I would have liked to either ride along (I would have let you drive my FEH, & not many have done that!) & watch what you do, or have you give me pointers as you rode along with me.
I don't see it as you having anything to prove, but some of us (well at least *me*) could learn from you, in person, even more than we have learned through these boards.

There are a lot of reasons I gave up on going. My mother died in November and left me with my father to take care of. Now he wants me to move him to his home state 1200 miles away. Renting and taking care of his home here has added to my to do list. On top of that, my son is going to graduate a year earlier than I thought at MIT. Our whole family has just made plans to attend his graduation in June, so time off is getting tight.
The part that you bring up about letting me drive your FWD FEH has got my attention. If I didn't have to take my FEH, I could check into flying there and saving a lot of time and money. My wife thinks I should go, but I think she just wants to abuse my FEH while I gone (just kidding). If I do decide to go, I will remove the plug to my HV battery and take it with me in case anyone needs one at Hybridfest though (just kidding again).
What are the dates this year of Hybridfest, so I can check into flying?

This year it is going to be July 20-22. I wouldn't see it as a chance to have to prove anything to anyone, but instead a chance to meet other hybrid owners and hypermilers in person for once and spend a weekend in the their company for a catered cookout, technical hybrid and environmental sessions, and to see over a hundred hybrid vehicles together and get a chance to look at your friends' cars you've only read about. Last year many people didn't participate in the MPG competition, and still didn't have enough time to see everything they wanted to.
