Are FEH dipsticks Accurate?
Getting ready to fill the last cavity with synthetic {crankcase}; and noticed the variation of fills from 4-4 1/2 qts.: and the twist dipstick in discussions https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...question-9886/
Has anyone noticed if you check the oil after sitting it reads low [which I was taught to be , and always found the most accurate ] , but if I wipe it off reinsert and then check it it's full???

When the Ford dealer was doing my oil changes the FEH would come back filled to the Max line or slightly above, and 1/2 qt of unused oil in the container. I change my own now and 4.0 qts fills to halfway between Min and Max, that's with a filter change.
Supposedly the most accurate way to check oil level is to remove the dipstick, wipe it, and leave it out for a couple of minutes or longer. This allows any oil on the dip tube walls to drain. Then insert dipstick and immediately check the level. Anyway, that's what I do.

I've found the dipstick shows low after running and cooling down. Its as if a slight pressure builds in the tube holding the level down. So what I began doing years ago is to pull the dipstick, wait a few seconds, the reinsert it and pull & read it. That gives me an accurate level.
I always put in 4 quarts.
Remember the correct fill is anywhere between the two marks.
Not the top of the "full" mark.
I have no leaks (on the pavement) and usually never have to add any more, but I check it every 2-3 months. Then and only then would I ever add more.
I use Mobil 1 and go one year or 15,000 miles between changes.
A couple years ago I sent a used sample to the lab.
Lab said oil was still good at 15,000 and I could easily go 20,000 miles in the future but I usually don't.
