Driving to Save Gas

Driving to Save Gas
In the San Jose area today was declared "Drive the Speed Limit Day"
by our local "Mr. Roadshow", Gary Richards, who writes a daily column
in the San Jose Mercury News. I was selected from several volunteers
to drive Gary around in my 2006 FEH this morning and observe whether
or not people thought this was a good idea and were driving the speed limit.
The paper published a little cutout that people could tape to their rear window in support of the idea.
It was a light commute day in our area, perhaps due to the upcoming
holiday, but going 65 on cruise control for two hours gave me a little
"bounce" from 33.6 to 33.8 mpg-enough to convince me that I can
save a little gas while driving safer and saner. I am more about the
safely aspect-the gas mileage is just a nice perk. Consider trying to start
a similar movement in your part of the country and see what happens.
