I don't think the two fluids can be interchanged but I don't see why not.

"He reminded listeners that Ford's older Mercon spec has been replaced with Mercon V, and any remaining Mercon licenses will expire by June 30. Current and older models that recommend Mercon should be serviced with licensed Mercon V products now.
"

Mercon LV is something else -- a forward-looking fluid designed to deliver key performance benefits for 2008 models and beyond, he said. It is intended to coexist with Mercon V going forward, and the two are not interchangeable.

"Mercon LV, Ved explained last week in an interview with Lube Report, offers stable frictional performance, potential fuel economy benefits, improved anti-shudder performance and anti-foaming/aeration performance, and greater oxidation stability in step-type transmissions.

Licensing for Mercon LV -- the LV stands for "low viscosity," not 55 -- begins July 1, and the fluid will be used as factory fill for 2008 models such as the Ford Focus when they roll off the assembly line this year. Ford wants it ready for the service-fill market at the same time."

This article is old and our eCVT is not the standard transmission. It has no bands, belts, converters, or clutches except for the one-way clutch. If I was ever going to change my ATF in my '05 FEH, I would research to see if Ford has since allowed the use of Mercon LV in it and use that.

I visited 2 different Ford parts counters because the 1st person I dealt with didn't seem too sure about the type of fluid. He said Ford sent out a bulletins re the change. He was correct that my 05 is now using Mercon V fluid.

Hi Gary. I looked through 2005 Escape Mariner Hybrid Volume 1 and found on page 100-03-4 under the section 96,000 km/ 60,000kmiles Maintenance Schedule- bullet 11 "Change automatic fluid on all vehicles equipped with a CVT transmission and install a new high pressure case filter". I couldn't find any info for the high pressure case filter.

The Workshop Manual is for both gas and Hybrid.

It is what you said in a '05 Escape manual but under Maintenance Schedule for a '05FE: Attachment 1477. Not sure why it's include in that list.

The same Maintenance Schedule for a '05 FEH: Attachment 1478 and no mention of it here where it belongs.

That Section is for the Gas Escape and other Gas Ford vehicles. The Freestyle has a CVT and that is what that section is referring too. We have a sealed (E)CVT (Electronic) that has two internal electric motors that the standard Ford CVT does not have. That CVT has a filter and dip stick and our eCVT do not. Look at the Hybrid Section after that section for the FEH/MMH requirements. You made me check my manual tho...Good Job!

Thanks guys for the clarifying this. Bonus, I see we don't have to change out the PVC valve till 240,000km. Have you seen that procedure yet?. :omg:

You only need to change the PVC valve if it is causing problems. These are clean running engines so they may never need changing.
