Re: Blend Door Actuator - Again

2007 FWD, 65,000 miles...
The wrench light with the "Service soon..." message has been coming up for a week, or so.

Stopped by the dealer yesterday and they told me I'd have to wait at least four hours or make an appointment. Made the appointment for this morning and was there at 7AM.

At 8:30, a diagnosis: The service adviser said, "the Hybrid has a door on the HV battery A/C..." He didn't know what the code was or is so used to customers being completely oblivious, that he couldn't/wouldn't tell me.

I will get the info and add it here.

Interesting to see others experiencing this now at the same time, almost like it's a timed virus or something.

Didn't have the actuator part in stock and will have to order it. Good news is that he said it's under warranty, and there will be no charge. Sorry to those of you who had to pay $500+.

Past 50 years-old and the memory is what it used to be, but I think I had this fixed before. I'll have to check with my sweet, efficient wife who keeps meticulous records and saves all service receipts.

As I've said before I don't see how it isn't covered by the hybrid components part of the warranty (100K miles). I would fight tooth and nail for it to be covered.

OK, I programmed my SG II to read the battery DTC code. Hopefully I will never see that "code 1" on the display (but I'm not holding my breath)!

According to the service agent, the diagnosis code was B1239. The notes on the work order say they reprogrammed the BCM, and the applicable TSB is 072512A.

Yup, that is the same one I got - but I've had the repair done twice in 12 months.

If you have a scanguage, you can program the DTC for the battery, it will show a "1" if the blend door actuator is trowing an error.

Re: Blend Door Actuator - Again

My experience with this problem (also posted on escape-city.com). I have a 2006 FEH. The wrench light started coming on frequently, basically every time I drove. Finally looked online and read about the blend door actuator problem. Decided to try to remove the actuator before buying a new one. Looked at everything I could find, including service manual. Did not drain refrigerant. Was unable to get duct assembly completely off, although I got some parts of it off. Very difficult to put back together, making sure the upper chamber aligned properly. Was able to remove the actuator without removing the whole duct assembly, however. Had to use a very small wrench and a lot of patience. Put it back on and waited for the wrench light, and also set my dash display to dtc (push odomoter button before turning key, then turn to ignition, and even start car with display showing - about 14 pushes of the trip odometer cycles to dtc - should flash nOnE). I was hoping to catch a code when the wrench light went on (should have tried that before). However, the wrench light has not come on after several driving cycles. It's possible that there was a bad electrical connection (I unplugged and replugged it), or that one of the doors was stuck (I made sure that the upper door moved freely when I put the upper duct chamber piece back on).

Here's my take...
If you get it stuck "open" to outside air, you will only get ambient air temperature to the pack, and on a hot day, you could have an overheat.

On the other hand, if you get it stuck closed, or unplug the wire when closed, then you will get A/C cooling when needed, and no chance of overheat.

Thus, manually leaving it in the closed position is best if you need to delay a repair for weeks or months.

I am doing my door now. I found the door to be stuck open, I don't know how long it was like that. I will tell everyone that you will need a 5.5mm socket and/or a 5.5mm wrench to get the bolts off.

Same here. 2008 MMH, 48K, wrench light on. Dealer: $150 for diagnosis (twice for the regular Escape "it's more complicated"): blend door actuator, plus $250 to replace a $27 part.
It's not covered under the hybrid warranty (very little is), even though it's a hybrid specific part.(!?)

If Ford reads these posts- you should realize that you screwed up and need to make it right- a lot of unhappy customers here.

BTW-- the blend door actuator for the cabin heat is going bad too (bad hard drive noise); I will replace that one myself.

It's been a good car, but...

Re: Blend Door Actuator - Again

Just got mine FEHL 09 back from the shop AND Blend door! Still under warranty. I should note for those thinking about getting the K&N fillter in the back, DO IT! My dealership said nothing and i even have the big "do not throw out" sticker.

Back to the blend door. I started to get a wreanch Icon about 4 weeks ago. Once a week for the 1st 2 weeks. It then started to ramp up. In the last week it eliminated everyday. Once I got a day off, I dropped it off at Mccoy&Mills Ford and of course the light was on! I made sure to tell them to leave the car on until they could read the code.

After about 3 hours i got a call to pick it up. They told me it was the blend door and "it's the most common thing we fix on these hybrids." That's a quote from the service manager.

The paper work i got back said they did a "Replace blend door actuator mt to reprio gram modules" and a part # 8L8Z*19E616*E
