Default Back up Lights & Switch Problems (2006 FEH)

Dear FEHers

I have a 2006 escape hybrid with a salvage title so Ford cancelled the warranty. At a safety inspection today we found the back up lights were not working. Bulbs are ok, fuse 29 is ok, back up light sockets not getting power when in reverse. The local mechanic who has been working on it searched alldata data base but the picture for the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid coming up is same at the one for 20063 litre V6 with auto, and does not correspond with what we see under the hood at all.

If anyone out there has the ford part number for the hybrid back up switch, and a picture of the back up switch location that would be appreciated. Wiring diagrams would also be helpful...

Sorry about this rush but local ford dealer that work on hybrid escapes can't get us in for a look for quite a while and we need to finish the work by Monday assuming we can get the parts. Kermit is close to being on the road again after 7 months in the penalty box for getting in the way of teenagers at a Salt Lake City stop in a winter snowstorm.

Please send pictures or data to tya2@4-fly.net or fax to 780-459-0813

Thanks Rocky

You probably need a new Smart Junction Box, as the reverse relay is inside of that. Could also be the instrument cluster, as that is what sends the signal on the MS-CAN bus to the SJB to turn on the relay, or a loose connector. Did you get any DTC's? If it's the SJB, you will have to download the existing module configuration so it can be programmed into the new SJB. The SJB is under the console on the driver's side.

Just to be clear, there is no back up switch per se in the FEH. The back up lights relay is controlled by the instrument cluster through the MS-CAN bus.

Two Ford dealers later it was the SMART JUNCTION BOX!!!! The programming of the key fobs was ignored by the dealer who eventually did the work resulting in an extra 40 mile trip to get the job finished.
