Default 2006 Escape Dies While Driving

My 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid motor will die without warning while driving or setting in park. All the information center will tell you is to "safely pull over" and the "Power" indicator light will come on. The car will restart and run for a few minutes but will die again and eventually will not even re-start. I let the car set for a day and the car was fine to drive for 2 days and then I started having the problem again. I am suspicious of the battery getting week, but was uncertain if I should change the 12 volt battery or if the high voltage battery was actually the one that started the car. Or, if the battery was even the issue.

Any information anyone has on this would be helpful because I know very little about the operation of Hybrids.

Thanks in advance

The FIRST thing to do is have your FEH scanned by a mechanic with a scan tool capable of reading Ford's proprietary codes. There are several conditions that cause the problems you are experiencing.

Yeah, don't just throw money at it till you know what the codes point toward. I had a 12V battery issue code and a new battery solved it for me, but many others have the MECS pump crap out on them when they get the SSN issue. Still others may have the battery cooling fans fail, or....?

And FYI most generic code readers will NOT show the various Ford-specific DTCs from the various modules so don't expect the guys at Pepboys to find anything. Your best bet is having a Ford dealer pull codes from all the modules.

Thank you both for the input. It has helped me out and I will get back with you in the future to inform you of the repairs.
