Zero Labs Bronco and Land Rover

By artfully converting classics such as the Ford Bronco and Land Rover, Zero defies EV expectations.

In the last several years, some of the most mind-blowing vehicles have come from the EV segment. It is undeniable that these hybrid and electric cars and trucks offer an intriguing glimpse at the future. But, however appealing and innovative these rides are, the designs are patently modern and futuristic. Which is one thing that can leave classic car and truck enthusiasts feeling a little bereft. We want the past and the rich history infused with the future.

Okay, maybe we’re being greedy. Or maybe not. We have seen automakers roll out new models with bold designs that build on an icon while retaining the soul of its roots. Two recent and very successful examples would be the the 2021 Ford Bronco and the new mid-engined Chevrolet C8 Corvette. And while these vehicles are fantastic and live rent-free in my mind; they still run on gas.

Electric vehicle conversions are the ideal option for a true green classic. EV conversions and swaps have evolved to keep up with the rapidly changing times. One company that has earned its reputation as offering some of absolute best retro EVs is Los Angeles-based Zero Labs Automotive.

Time in Bottle

When Zero Labs debuted their restomod EV Ford Bronco in 2019, it sparked a lot of attention. And rightfully so. Zero’s first-generation 1966 Ford Bronco is impossibly seamless; reviving and capturing the SUV’s roots as a carefree, capable ride poised for adventure.

Each build goes through a thorough process. First the vehicle is disassembled and stripped down. Next it is completely restored and rebuilt. Then it gets their all-electric platform with upgradable battery.

Their Bronco builds bring together the timeless style of the era with a boost of today’s EV power. Actually, “boost” is an understatement. Zero’s bespoke Bronco produces 600 horsepower, a 471% increase from the 105 horses the 1966 model made.

Additionally, the Bronco has all-wheel drive with two independent motors that digitally control torque to the front and rear wheels, allowing a choice of power or range for the driver. Available as an 85 or 100 kWh battery; it cranks out 440kW of power with an estimated 235 miles of range.

After the Bronco, Zero started expanding their fleet.

Time Is On My Side

Using the same platform as the Ford Bronco, Zero started working on a first-generation Land Rover.

Frankly, it is hard to imagine a better choice to follow the Bronco than a Land Rover Series III. Not only is the classic early-1970s Land Rover beloved by classic enthusiasts, it was known as an off-roader. Zero wisely showed that the right build can produce an all-electric off-road beast.

It is a remarkable EV restomod, and clearly built with a lot of love and enthusiasm.

Electrify Everything!

Later this year, Zero is evolving again with the release of the World’s first complete electric platform made specifically for classic gasoline and diesel vehicles. To expand their scope, their conversions will include a wide range of vehicles.

The genius behind this versatility is their skateboard platform. Able to adapt to a number of makes, models and size configurations, this is game changing. They will be able to restore, rebuild, and electrify classic SUVs and 4x4s (1947-1975), pre-1975 classic muscle cars, 2dr coupes (1948-1975), and pickup trucks (1947-1975).

We will we awaiting these builds with bated breath! In the meantime, check out Zero Labs to see more of the magic of classic EV conversions.
