Meet the World’s Fastest Production Car (That You Might Not Know Yet)

Rimac Concept Two C2 prototype

The Rimac Concept Two–a blisteringly fast, Porsche-slayer capable of 8.9-second quarter-mile–just beat Bugatti Chiron’s record. And it’s an EV!

When you hear the name Rimac it probably rings a bell. That is going to change. Rimac just blew our minds and made a lasting impression with their upcoming Concept Two (aka C_Two) hypercarIn a new video, founder and CEO Mate Rimac is behind the wheel while testing the preproduction Concept Two. The C_Two is a gravel-melting beast. Not only does it smoke a Porsche Taycan Turbo S, it beat Bugatti’s record for fastest accelerating production car.

Since its inception in 2009, Rimac Automobili has been passionately creating and refining electric car design and technology with the goal of building potent, powerful electric cars. And they nailed it with the 1,287 hp Rimac Concept One, able to hit 0 to 60 in a mere 2.6 seconds. But the new Concept Two is coming, and it is packing one heck of a punch.

From their new and incredibly cool new production hub in Croatia, Rimac has been producing EVs and powertrains with scorching results. Of course, Rimac may also bring to mind an unfortunate memory. It was the $1-million dollar Rimac Concept One that The Grand Tour’s Richard Hammond was crashed while filming a Swiss hill-climb.

But the all-new C_Two prototype is a whole new level of breakneck capability. Capable of hitting top speeds of 256 mph, the fast and torquey all-electric speed monster must be seen to be believed.

Mate Rimac is the perfect host of the video. As the man behind the C_Two–a working title for now, soon to be re-named–he has all the details. With a range of 341 miles, the two-seater is sporty and sleek. And the rear spoiler is heaven.

It must be noted that the C_Two he is driving on the track is a prototype. And it is running at about 85-90% of the power the production model will ultimately have while his team is tweaking the torque. Meaning the soul-snatching acceleration and performance is all without the benefit of full power and launch control programming that will be in the production car.

Mate demonstrates the various controls and drive modes. The technology and connectivity is outstanding. He hits the track to test its straight line performance. In the trial run he lays down a quarter-mile time of 8.94 seconds at 155 mph, and 0-60 in 2.3-seconds. That makes the Rimac Concept Two the fastest production car in the world, beating the Bugatti Chiron’s 9.4-second 1/4 mile time.

Next, he races a Porsche, because why not? It is an effortless win with Rimac decimating the ICE-powered Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Not only does the Rimac C_Two launch like nothing we’ve seen, it has levels of power that feel like a rocket as it just gaps the Porsche without breaking a sweat.

Expected to produce 1,914 horses, the Rimac Concept Two car is one record-breaking car you will remember. Expected to go into production soon, we will be watching for more on this insane and genius supercar.
