Hyundai Unveils Heritage Series Grandeur EV

Hyundai celebrates its first flagship saloon with a new heritage series model. The ‘Heritage Series Grandeur is a retro-futuristic concept that uses an all-electric powertrain.

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of its first flagship saloon, Korean car manufacturer –Hyundai recently unveiled a retro-futurist concept car. The new concept draws its design inspiration from the 1986 Grandeur and is called ‘Heritage Series Grandeur’. The new concept gets a plethora of modern features. Hyundai Heritage Series Grandeur’s cabin stimulates different human senses with the help of its interior’s lighting and sound setup. Furthermore, an all-electric powertrain propels the futuristic saloon.

This is the second Heritage Series model from Hyundai. The company introduced another electric restomod earlier in the year, which was the Pony EV concept. Like the Pony EV concept, Heritage Series Grandeur also sports the boxy styling of the ’80s classic car. The bodywork of Heritage Series Grandeur also gets many modern tweaks, which include new moldings, grille, and Wheels that sport period-accurate design. The front- and rear-end of the futuristic EV also gets Hyundai’s “Parametric Pixel” treatment.

Hyundai’s Ioniq concepts including the Ioniq 5 EV also get the same parametric pixel treatment. Inside the cabin, we find a single-spoke steering wheel that gets velour upholstery. Staying true to its retro theme, the cabin also gets bronze lighting that according to Hyundai, offers a “sensual atmosphere”.

Heritage Series Grandeur’s gets a plethora of creature comforts, which include an elaborate touchscreen interface and an 18-speaker sound system.

A giant high-resolution screen dominates the dashboard, and the digital instrument cluster blends into Grandeur’s infotainment system display. We also find touchscreens built into the steering wheel and the center console. The latter has a quirky functionality, as it also transforms into a digital piano. The electric concept car’s sound system gets as many as 18 speakers.

Furthermore, the drive selector of the Heritage Series Grandeur is fashioned to look like a throttle lever that one would find in a jet aircraft. The front armrest also houses special storage compartments where passengers can stow away their wallets and watches.

So far, there is no information on what kind of powertrain underpins the Hyundai Heritage Series Grandeur. The company will also introduce more Heritage Series concepts in the future. A retro-futuristic rendition of Hyundai’s first-generation Galloper will be the automaker’s next concept. The upcoming Galloper Concept will also be Hyundai’s first off-road model in the Heritage Series.
