Everything Electric: Nio Global Might Be the Next Big EV
Nio Global might be a new name, but it is one to remember. With cool rides generating big sales, they also are changing the consumer experience.
It is truly a time to be covering hybrid and electric vehicles. After years of speculation we find ourselves in a fascinating time of change. A wellspring of groundbreaking ideas and innovation are a major driving force. And the numbers of new automakers increase, some just stand out.
We have seen both new and established automakers impress with the quality of the vehicle, or the technology it utilizes. It takes a bold and unique vision from concept to road, or introduces an interesting business structure. In the case of Nio Global, it was a combination of all of the above that grabbed our interest.
After launching in 2014, the Chinese-based company has expanded to facilities in Norway, Germany, England, the U.S. devoted to areas from R&D to production. And in that short time, Nio has racked up big sales. It took the company about a year to sell 100,000 mass-marketed vehicles.
Nio’s flagship all-electric ES8 is already a smash in Europe, and is headed to Norway, where it is already up to its headlamps in reservations.
Luxe style, a modern interior, and high-strength all-aluminum body and active safety features (standard on all ES8s) helped the ES8 earn a five-star safety rating by European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). It also can accommodate 6 or 7 passengers.
Its dedicated EV platform employs a whole lotta power with a 100kWh battery. Down the line they plan an autonomous version. The company also has a sporty sedan, and a crossover coupe in their lineup. And you know they’re working on an electric track weapon.
Using some amazing technology, including a standard-range hybrid-cell battery, Nio puts their cars through some serious torture tests to ensure their cars can handle anything. Yes they look sleek and polished…because they are. They’ve proven it.

We also have to note that Nio has a very refreshing approach when it comes to selling vehicles. It is a community, very much like an enthusiast community. Ownership allows one inside a pretty fun and cool culture with unique perks. Their Nio Houses, for example are a place to get information, exclusive looks at the cars, or just have cup o joe and kick it iwith fellow drivers.
Branding a lifestyle is a brilliant move. Certainly Porsche, Jeep, BMW, Benz, and many others would agree.
