Mitsubishi claims that its new S-AWC system will make the next-gen Outlander more comfortable and safer.

Mitsubishi has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid variant of its new Outlander crossover will get an “evolved” all-wheel control system. The technology is called Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC). The new system will make its stateside debut in the second half of 2022. Moreover, the automaker also shared teaser images of the 2023 Mitsubishi outlander.

The Super- All Wheel Control system is the latest update of Mitsubishi’s PHEV tech. The company claims that its new technology will offer more comfortable driving dynamics. The system will also enhance the safety of the next-generation outlander SUV. For the uninitiated, Mitsubishi has a renowned motorsport lineage. Therefore, we reckon that Mitsubishi’s rally experience proved useful, and helped the automaker develop a very capable all-wheel-drive system.

With the help of its S-AWC system, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander will be capable of taking on challenging roads and weather conditions. The plug-in hybrid powertrain of the next-gen Mitsubishi Outlander employs a pair of electric motors which bestows the crossover with its four-wheel-drive setup. Furthermore, the 2023 Outlander will get an electric motor on each axle.

The 2023 Outlander PHEV variant will get a dedicated braking control system for the rear wheels.

According to the Japanese automaker, its S-AWC system will be capable of judging terrain conditions. Therefore, the S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamic control unit will regulate power between the two axels based on the road surface. The electrified drivetrain of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will also enhance the crossover’s acceleration, braking, and handling characteristics.

Unlike the ICE-powered models of the upcoming Outlander, the PHEV model will also get a dedicated braking control system for the rear wheels as part of the S-AWC tech. The additional braking control system will help deliver maximum performance by reducing the braking load on the front wheels. The 2023 Mitsubishi outlander will get 7 driving modes. This will allow drivers to select the ideal mode to tackle challenging terrains, and even chose the mode that suits their driving style.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander will also get Power and Eco modes in addition to standard driving modes like Snow and Gravel. As the name suggests, the two driving modes will offer optimum performance and fuel economy. So far, we do not have any information regarding the pricing and performance of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander.
