I can't site exact references but two Prius taxi uses may be of help. In Vancouver, British Colombia a Prius first generation has covered over 200,000 miles of passenger service. Also in New York multiple Pruis taxis are or shortly will be used.

i can't comment on the bluetooth [my cell company won't let me touch one in their stores... i have to order off the web, and i won't do that, sight-unseen], but i can say that in well-mapped areas, the NAV is quite good. even in not-so-well-mapped areas, the streets are named and marked [note i'm in the USA near a state capital...], but the voice directions often don't work, and i don't know why. it IS an '04, so the newer model might be better that way. see if you can get a test drive and try the NAV system yourself. since it won't work while you're moving without a $100 USD modification, i'd suggest you don't make that the big decision point.

it's roomy in back for two passengers, and the rear hatch will store several good-sized garment bags and suitcases, which should serve a taxi driver quite well.

in city driving, stop-and-go, the fuel mileage should be fine, and even out in the country, the small size will work well on narrow country byways.

handling's good, too, for all those winding roads and roundabouts, too :)

i just got a lot of hits googling "prius taxi", so you might try that, too, and see what folks say about it. come back and let us know what happens!

happy motoring!

Congrats, where ya from? Enjoy your Prius! My 2-year anniversary happens this month and I'm still smiling everytime I'm driving it. Smugness... it's a Prius thing.

Excellent choice!

Do come back after you get a chance to put on some miles and let's chat about how to maximize fuel efficiency and "lesson's learned." For example, cold weather, tires, oil levels, MPH vs. MPG (we can convert to metric as needed.)

congratulations, mervyn, and i'm sure we all wish you many miles of safe, inexpensive, happy driving!

there is always a lot of interest on this site about hearing other drivers' experiences, so if you have problems or satisfaction with your new car, please drop in once in a while and let us know. you may very well be putting more miles on your Prius than many of us put on our hybrids, so your information and feelings will have much value for us.

wishing you the best,
+af
